Promotion!

Two years have flown by! Matthew is about to get his first promotion to 1st Lieutenant! I am so excited. Even though it is an automatic promotion Matthew has worked so hard these past couple years. At my spouses’ meeting the other night we were asking the Colonel’s wife if there is anything we should know or be doing for these promotions. I learned a couple of things.
  • Promotion Ceremony: If parents are present they may pin on the new rank on the undershirt of uniform, not the jacket. The spouse pins the new rank onto the jacket. You do not HAVE to both.
  • Husbands (or military member) get his spouse flowers on the promotion day.
  • For officers, the big parties start when you achieve Major not usually before.
We are going home to Colorado for a week and to celebrate we are going to have a family dinner. We are also going to have a big pot-luck barbeque when we get back to Great Falls to celebrate with our friends. (most are also getting promoted in the next couple months). I will probabaly also get Matthew a small gift, like a coin, to remember the day by.

Congrats! It may be (mostly) automatic, but it sure does feel good to NOT be the "butter bar" anymore - no longer the lowest man on the totem pole, so to speak.
